The Light of the Eyes - Proverbs 15:30

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the LORD is far from the wicked: but he hears the prayer of the righteous, and in chapter fifteen and verse thirty of Proverbs Solomon said, “the light of the eyes rejoices the heart” where we read,

The light of the eyes rejoices the heart: and a good report makes the bones fat.

The verse begins, “The light of the eyes rejoices the heart:” Solomon began with the words, “the light” or “the brightness, illumination and cheerfulness” “of the eyes” which means “belonging to the physical eyes” “rejoices the heart” or “makes glad, brightens, cheers up and makes gleeful the soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon shared how the illumination of the physical eyes of a person makes their soul to be brightened and glad.

The verse goes on to say,and a good report makes the bones fat.” Solomon continued with the words, “and a good report” or “and pleasant, agreeable, rich, valuable, appropriate and becoming news, rumor and tidings” “makes the bones fat” which means “causes the essence, substance and limbs of the body to become anointed, prosperous and acceptable”. Solomon said news that is pleasant and agreeable causes the essence and substance of a person to be prosperous.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we see how the illumination of the physical eyes and pleasant news affects the lives of people. When we “see” according to God's Divine will, and we receive pleasant news, not only is our soul affected, but our essence is affected as well. God loves us, and He desires to live with us in Heaven forever. Sin in our lives keeps us separated from Him, so He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and illuminate our “eyes” as He gives us “good reports” so we may enjoy being with Him both now and for all eternity.

Next time Solomon shares about, “the ear that hears the reproof of life”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
