In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said,“the getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity” where we read,
The getting of treasures by a lying tongue
is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
The verse begins, “The getting of treasures by a lying tongue ...” Solomon began with the words, “the getting of treasures” or “the work, deeds, doing and wages pertaining to gold, silver, etc. within a storehouse or treasury” “by a lying tongue” which means “through the means of a deceptive, fraudulent and wrongful wedge in the mouth used for speaking”. Solomon referred to the acts and deeds performed through the means of a deceptive and fraudulent “tongue”.
The verse continues, “... is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.” Solomon added the words, “is a vanity”which means “exists as emptiness and something transitory and unsatisfactory” “tossed to and fro” or “ driven away, asunder and about” “of them that seek death” which means “by the people both male and female who desire, request, require and exact pestilence, ruin and the realm of the dead”. Solomon said the people who use their “tongued”fraudulently and deceptively for the purpose of “getting treasure” do so with an emptiness employed by people who require ruin, pestilence and the realm of the dead.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we see the emptiness that is found by the person who uses their “tongue” to gain wealth. They become like people who are demanding “death” and ruin, and God wants us to keep away from this kind of behavior. He knows we all have sin and come short of His glory (See Romans 3:23), and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross to pay for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of seeking treasure that shall never fade away. (See Luke 16:11)
Next time Solomon shares about, “the robbery of the wicked shall destroy them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
