In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the rich and the poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse three of Proverbs Solomon said, “a prudent man foresees the evil, and hides himself” where we read,
A prudent man foresees the evil, and hides himself:
but the simple pass on, and are punished.
The verse begins, “A prudent man foresees the evil, and hides himself:” Solomon began with the words, “a prudent man”or “a person whether male or female who is skillful, shrewd, crafty and sly” “foresees the evil” which means “looks at, inspects, perceives and considers the bad, disagreeableness, malignancy and wickedness”, “and hides himself” or “and conceals and keeps secret their own selves”. Solomon said a person who is skillful and shrewd perceives wickedness and bad and conceals themselves away from it.
The verse continues, “but the simple pass on, and are punished.” Solomon added the words, “but the simple pass on” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the people who are foolish and naive transgress, go beyond and travel on”, “and are punished” which means “and become amerced, condemned and mulct”. Solomon said people who are foolish and naive continue traveling into “evil” and become condemned and amerced.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a person who is shrewd perceives wickedness and conceals themselves from it, however, a person who is foolish continues walking on their journey toward “evil” and suffer for it. God wants us to be aware of wickedness, and when we discover “evil”, we are to avoid it completely. God knows the propensity of people to continue into wickedness and sin, and they often do not repent until they suffer the consequences of them. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of being prudent when “wickedness” arises before us.
Next time Solomon shares about, “riches, and honor and life”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
