In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that has understanding, and he will understand knowledge”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-six of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “he that wastes his father, and chases away his mother” where we read,
He that wastes his father, and chases away his mother,
is a son that causes shame, and brings reproach.
The verse begins, “He that wastes his father, and chases away his mother, ...” Solomon began with the words, “he that wastes his father” or “the male child who deals violently, despoils, devastates, ruins and spoils their immediate male progenitor and ancestor”, “and chases away his mother” which means “and puts to flight, drives away and makes their immediate female progenitor and ancestor to flee” exists as the following. Solomon shared how the male child who devastates their male progenitor and puts to flight their immediate female ancestor exists as the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... is a son that causes shame, and brings reproach.” Solomon continued with the words, “is a son” or “exists as a male child” “that causes shame” which means “who confounds, disconcerts and disappoints”, “and brings reproach” or “and abashes, causes embarrassment and confusion”. Solomon said the male child who “wastes his father, and chases away his mother” exists as a child who disappoints and causes embarrassment.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how children who deal violently with their parents not only disappoint them, but also brings confusion and embarrassment to them as well. God said, “honor your father and your mother” , and He added, “that you days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God gives you”. (See Exodus 20:12) God knows the disappointment and embarrassment children can bring to their parents, and He wants to have a relationship with them through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of everyone. When we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to give honor and respect to our parents so we never embarrass them or cause them to be disappointed in us.
Next time Solomon says, “cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to err”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
