The Desire of the Slothful - Proverbs 21:25

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “proud and haughty scorner is his name, who deals in proud wrath, and in chapter twenty-one and verse twenty-five of Proverbs Solomon said, “the desire of the slothful kills him” where we read,

The desire of the slothful kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.

The verse begins, “The desire of the slothful kills him, ... Solomon began with the words, “the desire” or “the wish, longing, appetite, lust and covetousness” “of the slothful” which means “belonging to people who are lax, lazy, indolent and sluggard” “kills him” or “puts to death, destroys and slays the person whether male or female who is lazy”. Solomonshared how the appetite and lust of the person who is lazy and lax destroys them and puts them to death.

The verse goes on to say, “... for his hands refuse to labor.” Solomon continued with the words, “for his hands” or “because, since and on account that the person whether male or female's physical hands” “refuse to labor” which means “utterly rejects and considers fashioning, accomplishing, producing and making work distasteful”. Solomon said the “slothful” person considers work to be unsavory and disgusting.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how consequences of death and destruction await people who are indolent and lazy. God loves us, and He wants us to work in His Kingdom. He has a plan and purpose for all of us, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, we all have an opportunity to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and inspired to serve Him as we surrender to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Solomon says, “he covets greedily all the day long”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
