A Pleasant Thing - Proverbs 22:18

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Bow down your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart unto my knowledge, and in chapter twenty-two and verse eighteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you” where we read,

For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you;

they shall withal be fitted in your lips.

The verse begins, For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; Solomon began with the words, “for it is a pleasant thing” or “because, since and on account that it exists as a delightful, sweet, lovely and agreeable act and deed” “if you keep them” which means “whether and in case you, people reading and listening to Solomon's words, guard, observe, take heed to and have charge of the words of the wise” “within you” or “inside of you, the people listening and applying them”. Solomon said that it exists as a loving act and deed when people watch over and observe the “words of the wise” and “apply” “knowledge” to their souls.

The verse goes on to say, “they shall withal be fitted in your lips.” Solomon continued with the words, “they shall withal” or “they, the words of the wise and Solomon's understanding, will altogether and alike” “be fitted in your lips” which means “exist as established, made stable and fixed within your, the readers and listeners of Solomon's words, physical lips used for speaking”. Solomon said the “words of the wise” and his “understanding” would be established upon the physical “lips” for speaking of the people who are listening and applying his words.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how observing “the words of the wise” and applying his “understanding” is good, and when we have them in our souls, we will manifest them through our speech. God wants us to be “wise”, and He wants us to “apply” His “understanding” to our lives. When we yield to His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us by His Holy Spirit to keep wisdom within us and apply insight and knowledge in every area of our lives.

Next time Solomon says, “that your trust may be in the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
