In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the slothful man says, there is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse fourteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the mouth of the strange woman is a deep pit” where we read,
The mouth of the strange woman is a deep pit:
he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.
The verse begins, “The mouth of the strange woman is a deep pit:” Solomon began with the words, “the mouth” or “the orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “of the strange woman” which means “belonging to the female human being who is a foreigner, enemy, prostitute, harlot or loathsome one” “is a deep pit” or “exists as an exceedingly mysterious and unsearchable ditch or chasm”. Solomon shared how the orifice in the face of a “woman” who is a loathsome harlot exists like an unsearchable chasm.
The verse goes on to say, “he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.” Solomon continued with the words, “he that is abhorred” or “the person whether male or female who exists as denounced, indignant and defiant” “of the LORD” which means “pertaining to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “shall fall therein” or “will be cast down, prostrated and overthrown within the unsearchable chasm”. Solomon said the person who is denounced by Jehovah God will be cast into the mysterious chasm of the “strange woman”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how God is warning us of people who have seductive speech, and wee must be careful with people who would lure us into wicked and evil ways. God loves us, and His desire is for us to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and not only make us aware of the “deep pit” that is within the hearts of those who would deceive us, but also how to be favored by Him so that we never “fall” into their unsearchable chasm.
Next time Solomon says, “foolishness is bound in the heart of a child”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
