A False Witness Shall Perish - Proverbs 21:28

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind?”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse twenty-eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “a false witness shall perish” where we read,

A false witness shall perish: but the man that hears speaks constantly.

The verse begins, A false witness shall perish: Solomon began with the words, “a false witness” or “a lying, untruthful and deceptive testifier or giver of evidence” “shall perish” which means “will vanish, go astray, be destroyed and exterminated”. Solomon said a person who lies and gives deceptive testimony will be exterminated and destroyed.

The verse continues, “but the man that hears speaks constantly.” Solomon added the words, “but the man that hears” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the person whether male or female who listens to, perceives, understands and pays attention” “speaks constantly” which means “utters, declares and proclaims perpetually, continually and with strength and victory”. Solomon said the person who carefully listens will utter speech and testify continually.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how there are destructive consequences for a person who testifies in a deceptive manner. However, when a person gives attention to listening to others, they will effectively testify in a constant and victorious way. God wants us to be quick to listen and slow to speak, (See James 1:19) and when we receive His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be honest in our “witness” while continually “speaking” with our listening.

Next time Solomon says, “a wicked man hardens his face”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
