In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provokes him to anger sins against his own soul”, and in chapter twenty and verse three of Proverbs Solomon said, “it is an honor for a man to cease from strife” where we read,
It is an honor for a man to cease from strife:
but every fool will be meddling.
The verse begins, “It is an honor for a man to cease from strife:” Solomon began with the words, “it is an honor” or “it exists as rich, glorious and splendorous” “for a man” which means “on behalf of a person whether male or female” “to cease from strife” or “to avoid, keep aloof, head off, separate and stay apart from quarrels, controversies, disputes and fighting”. Solomon shared how it is glorious for a person to avoid and stay apart from disputing and fighting.
The verse goes on to say, “but every fool will be meddling.” Solomon continued with the words, “but every fool” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover each, the whole, all and everyone of the people who are silly, perverse and foolish” “will be meddling” which means “shall exist as exposing, laying bare, breaking out and being obstinate”. Solomon said each person who is silly and perverse shall expose, break out, be obstinate and quarreling.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we discover the difference between a person who considers it glorious to avoid quarreling and fighting and a person who is silly and foolish who is obstinate and quarreling. In other words, wise people know how to avoid fights, and foolish people constantly strive for them. God wants us to align with His way because He loves us. He proved His love to us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross and raised from the dead three days later so we could be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and taught to avoid fighting and keep away from quarreling when the opportunity presents itself.
Next time Solomon says, “the sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
