In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “hear counsel, and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “there are many devices in a man's heart” where we read,
There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
The verse begins, “There are many devices in a man's heart;” Solomon began with the words, “there are many devices” or “there exists an abundant, numerous and exceedingly great number of thoughts, plans, purposes and intentions” “in a man's heart” which means “within a person's, whether male or female, soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon shared how numerous thoughts and intentions exist within a person's soul, mind and will.
The verse continues, “nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.” Solomon added the words, “nevertheless the counsel” or “notwithstanding and moreover the prudence, purpose and advice” “of the LORD” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God” “that shall stand” or “the advice of Jehovah God will arise, endure, be fixed, established, proven and confirmed”. Solomon said the prudence and advice of Jehovah God would endure and remain.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how people have lots of thoughts, ideas and intentions within their souls and minds, however, the advice of Jehovah God will endure and remain. God has our best interest in mind, and He is omniscient – all knowing. When we realize He not only created us, but also gives us breath, life and sustenance to continue living, we shall understand His “counsel” supersedes any thought or idea we will ever possess on our own. God loves us, and when we yield to His Son Jesus who gave His life on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us by His Holy Spirit to give heed to Him and His everlasting purposes and advice.
Next time Solomon says, “the desire of a man is his kindness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
