Riches, Honor and Life - Proverbs 22:4

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a prudent man foresees the evil, and hides himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse four of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “riches, and honor and life” where we read,

By humility and the fear of the LORD,

are riches, and honor, and life.

The verse begins, “By humility and the fear of the LORD, ...” Solomon began with the words, “by humility” or “through the means of meekness, gentleness and modesty” “and the fear” which means “and the awe, reverence, terror and respect” “of the LORD” or “pertaining to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” the following will occur. Solomon said through the means of meekness, modesty and reverence to Jehovah God the following will happen. 

The verse goes on to say, “... are riches, and honor, and life.” Solomon continued with the words, “are riches” or “exists wealth and nobility”, “and honor” which means “and glory, splendor, dignity and abundance”, “and life” or “and active, fresh and flowing living”. Solomon said through the means of meekness, modesty and reverence to Jehovah God wealth, glory, splendor and active living will come. 

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon the value of “humility” and reverence of Jehovah God. God gives His benefits of wealth, splendor and active living to people who yield to Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we humble ourselves, reverence Him and surrender our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide us with His  “riches, honor and life”according to His perfect purposes and plans.
