The Wicked Soul Desiring Evil - Proverbs 21:10

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “it is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house, and in chapter twenty-one and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “the soul of the wicked desires evil” where we read,

The soul of the wicked desires evil: his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.

The verse begins, The soul of the wicked desires evil: Solomon began with the words, “the soul” or “the heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crime, evil and hostile to God” “desires evil” or “covets, waits longingly, wishes for and craves bad, disagreeableness, malignancy and unpleasantness”. Solomon shared how the heart, mind and will belonging to people who are evil and hostile to God craves that which is bad, disagreeable and malignant.

The verse continues, “his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.” Solomon added the words, “his neighbor” or “his, the person whether male or female's, intimate companion, fellow, associate or kinsman” “finds no favor” which means “does not discover, show or make grace, pity or favor” “in his eyes” or “within his, the person whether male or female's, physical eyes used for vision and sight or mental faculties”. Solomon said the “wicked” and evil person who is hostile to God does not discover any grace or favor within their intimate companion's vision or mental faculties.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the heart, mind and will of a person who is evil and hostile to God wants to continue in their “wicked” ways, and therefore, they in no way or manner discover any grace, pity or favor within the people who are intimately close to them. God wants us to keep away from “evil”, and because we have sinned against Him, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of distancing ourselves from “wicked” people and extending pity and grace to those who turn from their “evil” ways.

Next time Solomon says, “when the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
