In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.”, and in chapter twenty and verse thirty of Proverbs Solomon said, “the blueness of a wound cleanses away evil” where we read,
The blueness of a wound cleanses away evil:
so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
The verse begins, “The blueness of a wound cleanses away evil:” Solomon began with the words, “the blueness of a wound” or “the stripes, weals or black and blue marks caused by physical punishment” “cleanses away evil” which means “scores, bathes and purifies that which is bad, disagreeable, malignant and unpleasant”. Solomon shared how black and blue marks from physical punishment purifies that which is malignant and unpleasant within a person.
The verse continues, “so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.” Solomon added the words, “so do stripes” or “in the same manner and likeness beatings, smiting or blows” “the inward parts” which means “the chambers, innermost and inner portions” “of the belly” or “belonging to the abdomen, seat of hunger, heart or mental faculties”. Solomon said blows and smiting cleanses away “evil” from the heart and innermost soul or mental faculties of a person.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how punishment and blows purify malignancy and wickedness within a person's heart and soul. God desires to cleanse everyone of their sins through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and purify and “cleanse” us within our souls. (See 1 John 1:9)
Next time we begin a new chapter and see Solomon say, “the king's heart is in the hand of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
