In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Love not sleep, lest you come to poverty; open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread”, and in chapter twenty and verse fourteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “it is naught, it is naught, says the buyer” where we read,
It is naught, it is naught, says the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.
The verse begins, “It is naught, it is naught, says the buyer:” Solomon began with the words, “it is naught” or “evil, bad, malignant and displeasing”, “it is naught” which means “evil, bad, malignant and displeasing”, “says the buyer” or “utters, declares, proclaims and declares the person who acquires, purchases, obtains and redeems”. Solomon shared how a person who is purchasing an item tends to say the product they are buying is bad or displeasing.
The verse continues, “but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.” Solomon added the words, “but when he is gone his way” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover at the time and moment the buyer is gone, leaves and departs”, “then he boasts” which means “at that time the buyer shines, flashes light, glorifies and commends as worthy”. Solomon said after the “buyer” leaves, they brag about their purchase.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a person who is purchasing an item tends to disparage the product before they buy it, however, afterwards they “boast” about what they have bought. God knows the idea of negotiation, and because He was aware of the fact that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), He sent His Son Jesus to pay the price of death on the cross for the sins of the whole world. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be honest in our purchases and what we declare about the product we are buying.
Next time Solomon says, “the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
