Mercy and Truth Preserve the King - Proverbs 20:28

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly”, and in chapter twenty and verse twenty-eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “mercy and truth preserve the king” where we read,

Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upheld by mercy.

The verse begins, Mercy and truth preserve the king:” Solomon began with the word, “mercy” or “goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “and truth” which means “and firmness, sureness, reliability, stability and continuance” “preserve the king” or “guard, watch over and protect the royal ruler or leader”. Solomon shared how goodness, faithfulness, reliability and stability watch over and protect the royal ruler.

The verse continues, “and his throne is upheld by mercy.” Solomon added the words, “and his throne” or “and the king's seat of honor, authority and power” “is upheld” which means “exists as supported, sustained, established and strengthened” “by mercy” or “through goodness, kindness and faithfulness”. Solomon said the seat of honor and authority exists as supported and sustained through goodness and faithfulness.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see through Solomon how sureness and stability watch over and protect the royal ruler, and the royal ruler's seat of honor is sustained through His kindness and faithfulness. God loves people, and His desire is to live with us forever. Sin in our lives keeps us separated from a personal relationship with Him, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of honoring Him and His powerful “throne” throughout all eternity.

Next time Solomon says, “the glory of young men is their strength”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
