A High Look and Proud Heart - Proverbs 21:4

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “to do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice, and in chapter twenty-one and verse four of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “a high look, and a proud heart” where we read,

A high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.

The verse begins, A high look, and a proud heart, ... Solomon began with the words, “a high look” or “a haughty, elevated and lofty physical eye or mental and spiritual faculties”, “and a proud heart” which means “and a broad, wide and spacious soul, mind, will, desire, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon referred to the person whose sight and soul are filled with pride and haughtiness.

The verse continues, “... and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.” Solomon added with the words, “and the plowing” or “and tilling the fallow ground” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to the criminal, guilty of crime, evil and hostile to God”, “is sin” or “exists as error, wrong, mistakes and missing of the mark” Solomon said the tilling of the fallow ground of people who are evil and hostile to God exist as error, wrong and missing the mark.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how being “proud” and haughty as well as tilling the fallow ground of evil people exist as “sinful”. God knows all the manifestations of “sin”, and He is aware that everyone has “sinned” in one form or another. This is why God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and even when sins are manifested as “pride, haughtiness and aligning with wicked people”, He will forgive us of our sins, grant us everlasting life and cleanse us from all forms of wickedness when we yield our lives to Him.

Next time Solomon shares about, “the thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
