In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a king that sits in the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes”, and in chapter twenty and verse nine of Proverbs Solomon asked, “who can say, I have made my heart clean?” where we read,
Who can say, I have made my heart clean,
I am pure from my sin?
The verse begins, “Who can say, I have made my heart clean, ...” Solomon began with the words, “who can say” or “what person whether male or female is able and capable to utter, declare or proclaim”, “I have made my heart clean” which means “I, my own self, have purified, cleansed, justified and caused to be clear my, the person's, soul, mind, will, desires, conscience, living being and seat of emotions and passions”? Solomon questioned what person among people is capable of purifying and cleansing their own personal soul, mind and will.
The verse goes on to say, “... I am pure from my sin?” Solomon continued with the words, “I am pure” or “I, the person who says they are capable of cleansing their own heart, exist as ceremonially and morally bright and clean” “from my sin?” which means “separate and apart from my, the person's, error, wrong, mistake and missing of the mark”. Solomon said the person who says they are able to cleanse their own soul also declares themselves to be clean from all their errors and wrongs.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how although people may declare that they have made themselves “pure” within their “hearts”, they are deceived. God alone is able to “cleanse” a person from their sins (See 1 John 1:9), and He sent His perfect Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and do what no person is able to do on their own – cleanse us from sin and make us righteous within His sight. (See 2 Corinthians 5:21)
Next time Solomon shares about, “divers weights, and divers measures”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
