In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools”, and in chapter twenty and verse one of Proverbs Solomon said, “wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging” where we read,
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
The verse begins, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging:” Solomon began with the words, “wine is a mocker” or “fermented fruit of the vine exists as an arrogant scorner, boaster and derider”, “strong drink” which means “intoxicating and fermented alcoholic liquor” “is raging” or “exists as murmuring, growling, clamorous, disquieted and troubled”. Solomon shared how fermented fruit of the vine scorns and derides and intoxicating alcoholic liquor growls and troubles.
The verse goes on to say, “and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” Solomon continued with the words, “and whosoever is deceived thereby” or “and whatever person whether male or female that is mislead, errs, strays, swerves and meanders by wine and strong drink” “is not wise” which means “exists as without wisdom and exceedingly foolish”. Solomon said whatever person is mislead and errs by “wine and strong drink” exists as exceedingly foolish.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we realize this is a warning concerning the affects of intoxicating alcoholic beverages and liquor. Many lives have been destroyed because they became addicted to alcohol, and God wants us to be aware of the trouble drinking can bring. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of every person. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of abiding by His guidelines when it comes to fermented and intoxicating “wine and strong drink”.
Next time Solomon says, “the fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
