The Hearing Ear and the Seeing Eye - Proverbs 20:12

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right”, and in chapter twenty and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “the hearing ear, and the seeing eye” where we read,

The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD has made even both of them.

The verse begins, The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, ...” Solomon began with the words, “the hearing ear” or “the listening, perceiving and obedient physical ear”, “and the seeing eye” which means “and the perceptive, considering, observing and discerning physical eye”. Solomon referred to the physical ear that perceives and the physical eye used for vision and sight.

The verse continues, “... the LORD has made even both of them.” Solomon added the words, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “has made even both of them” which means “has fashioned, accomplished and produced the hearing ear and seeing eye”. Solomon said Jehovah God created and fashioned both the ear that hears and the eye that sees.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Solomon recognized the origin of our ears and eyes as being from Jehovah God. God made us, and He loves us. He wants to live with us eternally with Him, however, we have sin in our lives which separates us from a personal relationship with Him. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we have faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of being able to hear and see with the ears and eyes He provided to us.

Next time Solomon says, “love not sleep, lest you come to poverty”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
