The Thoughts of the Diligent - Proverbs 21:5

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin, and in chapter twenty-one and verse five of Proverbs Solomon said, “the thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness” where we read,

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness;

but of every one that is hasty only to want.

The verse begins, The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; Solomon began with the words, “the thoughts” or “the devices, plans, purposes and inventions” “of the diligent” which means “belonging to people who are sharp, pointed, determined and industrious” “tend only to plenteousness” or “lead a person solely toward pre-eminence, abundance, plenty and superiority”. Solomon shared how the devices and plans of people who are determined and industrious leads solely to pre-eminence and abundance.

The verse goes on to say, “but of every one that is hasty only to want.” Solomon continued with the words, “but of every one” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover pertaining to each, the whole and all people” “that is hasty” which means “who exist as pressed, hurried and labored” “only to want” or “solely toward lack, penury, deficiency, impoverishment and need”. Solomon said each person who is pressed and hurried will be lead to impoverishment and need.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how important our “thoughts” are in the world. When we think in a determined and industrious way and not hurried in our ventures, we will experience the prosperity God has in mind for us. If we do not think well and our ideas are lax and “hasty”, we will experience need and impoverishment. God wants us to be blessed in this life and the next, and for this reason He sent His Son Jesus into the word to die on the cross for our sins. When we surrender to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and lead us into diligently thinking and patience as He unfolds His plans and purposes for our lives.

Next time Solomon shares about, “the getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
