He that Sows Iniquity - Proverbs 22:8

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender, and in chapter twenty-two and verse eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that sows iniquity shall reap vanity” where we read,

He that sows iniquity shall reap vanity:

and the rod of his anger shall fail.

The verse begins, He that sows iniquity shall reap vanity: Solomon began with the words, “he that sows iniquity” or “the person whether male or female who produces, disseminates, plants and scatters seeds of injustice, unrighteousness, wrong and violent deeds” “shall reap vanity” which means “will cut down and harvest trouble, wickedness and sorrow”.Solomon shared how the person who scatters seeds of injustice and unrighteousness will harvest wickedness and sorrow.

The verse goes on to say, “and the rod of his anger shall fail.” Solomon continued with the words, “and the rod” or “and the staff, club, truncheon and scepter” “of his anger” which means “belonging to the person who sows iniquity's wrath and rage that wrinkles the nostrils and nose” “shall fail” or “will cease, end, be finished and complete”. Solomon said the one who “sows iniquity” with a scepter of authority and reigning with terror will come to an end.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how rulers who continually scatter seeds of unrighteousness will eventually have a harvest of emptiness and injustice, and although they are in authority at the present time, their reign will cease and come to an end. Paul the apostle wrote in Galatians 6:7-8 says, “be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap. For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting”. God will allow troubles and difficulties to come upon a person who continually spreads wickedness, and although they may seem to enjoy their present state, God will eventually bring vengeance upon them. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. He was raised from the dead three days later, and now all who believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and kept from “sowing iniquity” and harvesting the troubles that comes from doing so.

Next time Solomon says, “he that has a bountiful eye shall be blessed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
