In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that has a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he gives of his bread to the poor”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out” where we read,
Cast out the scorner and contention shall go out;
yes, strife and reproach shall cease.
The verse begins, “Cast out the scorner and contention shall go out;” Solomon began with the words, “cast out the scorner” or “drive away, thrust out, toss and expel the person who talks arrogantly, derides, mocks and scoffs” “and contention shall go out” which means “and strife, brawling and discord will depart and leave”. Solomon said when the scoffer and mocking person is thrust out, strife and discord will depart as well.
The verse goes on to say, “yes, strife and reproach shall cease.” Solomon continued with the words, “yes, strife” or “even so and indeed judgment, condemnation and disputing” “and reproach” which means “and ignominy, dishonor, disgrace and shame” “shall cease” or “will desist, be destroyed, be exterminated and put to an end”. Solomon said indeed condemnation and disputing will be exterminated, destroyed and put to an end when the scoffer is thrust away.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how to end “contention” and “strife”. When we remove the cause of “contention”, peace comes. God wants us to be a people of peace even as the angel at the birth of Jesus proclaimed, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men”. (See Luke 2:14), and when we yield to God's Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and is the “Prince of peace”, we shall be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and filled with His “peace” as the “scorner” of our souls has been removed.
Next time Solomon shares about, “he that loves pureness of heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
