Divers Weights and Measures - Proverbs 20:10

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?”, and in chapter twenty and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “divers weights, and divers measures” where we read,

Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

The verse begins, Divers weights, and divers measures, ...” Solomon began with the words, “divers weights” or “false stones used for buying and selling”, “and divers measures” which means “and differing and unequal measurements” are as the following. Solomon shared how false stones and unequal measurements used for buying and selling are as follows.

The verse continues, “... both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.” Solomon added the words, “both of them” or “both of the divers weights and measures” “are alike abomination” which means “exist even, also and indeed as unclean, disgusting and abhorrent” “to the LORD” or “to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Solomon said “divers weights and divers measures” exist as unclean and disgusting to Jehovah God.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that God expects us to be fair and “just”, and should we use altered means of measurements and weights, we violate His law. God loves us, and He wants us to be lawful in our business transactions. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield unto Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be honorable in our business and not disgusting to Him like those who cheat others.

Next time Solomon says, “even a child is known by his doings”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
