Proclaiming Your Own Goodness - Proverbs 20:6

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out”, and in chapter twenty and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “most men will proclaim every one his own goodness” where we read,

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness:

but a faithful man who can find?

The verse begins, Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness:” Solomon began with the words, “most men will proclaim” or “a majority of people both male and female shall summon, invite, commission and appoint” “every one” which means “each, the whole and all people” “his own goodness” or “their own personal mercy, lovingkindness and favor”. Solomon shared how a large majority of people summon, invite and declare their own personal lovingkindness and mercy.

The verse continues, “but a faithful man who can find?” Solomon added the words, “but a faithful man” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover a person whether male or female who is trustworthy, responsible, dependable, reliable and honest” “who can find” which means “what person is able to attain, secure, get and encounter”? Solomon asked where a person who is trustworthy and honest could be discovered.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a great number of people declare their own mercy and kindness, however, a person who is truly trustworthy is very difficult to discover. God wants us to be humble, and He desires that we allow others to discover our “goodness” rather than declare it ourselves. God will make us “faithful” people when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender ourselves to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to be trustworthy and honest before others.

Next time Solomon says, “the just man walks in his integrity”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
