In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to err from the words of knowledge”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “an ungodly witness scorns judgment” where we read,
An ungodly witness scorns judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.
The verse begins, “An ungodly witness scorns judgment:” Solomon began with the words, “an ungodly witness” or “a worthless, good for nothing, unprofitable, wicked and base person who gives testimony, record and evidence” “scorns judgment” which means “mocks at, talks arrogantly and boasts against justice, ordinance, process, procedure and litigation”. Solomon shared how an unprofitable and wicked person who gives a testimony and evidence talks arrogantly in opposition to justice and litigation.
The verse goes on to say, “... and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.” Solomon continued with the words, “and the mouth” or “and the orifice in the face which is used for eating, drinking and speaking” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to the criminal, guilty of crimes and evil person” “devours iniquity” or “swallows down, engulfs and eats up trouble, wickedness, sorrow and idolatry”. Solomon said the orifice in the face used for speaking by people who are evil swallows up and engulfs wickedness and idolatry.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we see how people who are wicked and base speak arrogantly against justice and litigation, and the “mouths” of people who are evil swallow up trouble and wickedness. Jehovah God gave us life, breath and sustenance of life, and He knows we need a “Savior” because we sin against Him and His ways. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from “ungodly testimonies” and “mouths” that boast in opposition to litigation and swallows up wickedness.
Next time Solomon says, “judgments are prepared for scorners”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
