In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Bow down your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart unto my knowledge. For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; they shall withal be fitted in your lips. That your trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to you this day, even to you”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon said, “have not I written to you excellent things” where we read,
Have not I written to you excellent things
in counsels and knowledge.
The verse begins, “Have not I written to you excellent things ...” Solomon began with the words, “have I not written to you” or “I, Solomon, wrote, inscribed, engraved and recorded to you, readers and listeners of Solomon's words” “excellent things” which means “three stringed or fold ”. Solomon shared how he wrote to the people reading and listening to his words with a triental, third or thirty verses.
The verse goes on to say, “... in counsels and knowledge.” Solomon continued with the words, “in counsels” or “principles, plans and purposes” “and knowledge” which means “and perception, skill, discernment, understanding and wisdom”. Solomon shared how he wrote to the people reading and listening to his words in principles, purposes, discernment and wisdom.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon purposed to write “excellent things” to the people reading and listening to his words, and he did so with wise and discerning principles, plans and words of wisdom and understanding. God wants us to know Him, and He gave us the Bible to know that He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and continually provide His wisdom and understanding through Solomon and others who were chosen to write His words.
Next time Solomon says, “that I might make you know the certainty of the words of truth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
