In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He that wastes his father, and chases away his mother, is a son that causes shame, and brings reproach”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to err” where we read,
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to err from the words of knowledge.
The verse begins, “Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to err ...” Solomon began with the words, “cease, my son” or “forego, leave undone, desist and stop my, Solomon's, male progeny and offspring”, “to hear the instruction” which means “to listen, pay attention and give heed to the discipline, chastening and correction” “that causes to err” or “that makes a son to produce a mistake, lead astray, swerve and commit sin”. Solomon instructed his male offspring to pay attention to discipline and correction that makes a person sin and go astray from the following.
The verse continues, “... from the words of knowledge.” Solomon added the words, “from the words” or “separate and apart from the utterances, declarations and proclamations” “of knowledge” which means “pertaining to perception, skill, discernment and wisdom”. Solomon said his “son” would separate himself from the declarations of discernment and wisdom if he stopped listening to the discipline and correction that would keep him from error and wrong.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his “son” to separate himself from a lack of discipline and correction that would lead into sin and error rather than perception and skill. In other words, Solomon's “son” was to avoid sabotaging his own life by simply not giving heed to wrongful counsel. God loves us, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will give us forgiveness of sins, eternal life and the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth (See John 16:33) so we may avoid error and wrong and be filled with His skill and discernment while we live on the earth.
Next time Solomon says, “an ungodly witness scorns judgment”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
