In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “whoso curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness”, and in chapter twenty and verse twenty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “an inheritance may be gotten hastily” where we read,
An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.
The verse begins, “An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning;” Solomon began with the words, “an inheritance” or “a possession, property, portion and share” “may be gotten hastily” which means “might be received, obtained or acquired in a hurried and quick manner” “at the beginning” or “at first, chief and initial time”. Solomon referred to the time when a possession or property is initially obtained.
The verse goes on to say, “but the end thereof shall not be blessed.” Solomon continued with the words, “but the end thereof” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the after part, latter time, posterity and hindermost time” “shall not be blessed” which means “will in no way or manner exist as O how happy, adored, praised or saluted”. Solomon said the latter time of a person gaining a possession or property quickly will not result in praise and adoration.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how a person might receive a possession or property in a hasty manner, however, the end result will not be happy. Material possessions have an illusion that they will make a person happy, however, they are temporal and will not last. God's desire is to give us eternal salvation through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord” He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us through His Holy Spirit to place value in His eternal gifts that shall not disappoint, but will remain forever and ever.
Next time Solomon declares, “say not you, I will recompense evil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
