The Froward and Strange Way - Proverbs 21:8

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “the way of a man is froward and strange” where we read,

The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.

The verse begins, The way of man is froward and strange: Solomon began with the words, “the way of a man” or “the traveled road, path, journey, distance and manner belonging to a person whether male or female” “is froward” which means “exists as crooked, perverse and twisted” “and strange” or “and guilty and burdened with guilt”. Solomon shared how the path and journey of people exist as twisted and burdened with guilt.

The verse continues, “but as for the pure, his work is right.” Solomon added the words, “but as for the pure” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover in reference to people who are just, right, clean, correct and righteous”, “his work is right” which means “his, the pure person's acts, deeds and things done exist as straight, upright, pleasing and correct”. Solomon said the people who are just, right and clean exist as correct and pleasing.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how the traveled road and path of people have twists and turns within them, however, the person who lives their life in a right and correct manner may be assured that their acts and deeds are pleasing and upright. God wants us to live in a manner that is pleasing to Him, and He will help us when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. As we humble ourselves before Him and repent of our sins, He will forgive us, grant us everlasting life and guide us by His Holy Spirit to live in a “pure” way that includes acts and deeds that are righteous and pleasing to Him.

Next time Solomon says, “it is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
