Judgment Prepared for Scorners - Proverbs 19:29

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “an ungodly witness scorns judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-nine of Proverbs Solomon said, “judgments are prepared for scorners” where we read,

Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

The verse begins, Judgments are prepared for scorners, ...” Solomon began with the words, “judgments are prepared” or “sentences and acts of infliction are made firm, stable, fixed and established” “for scorners” which means “on behalf of people who talk arrogantly, boast and scoff”. Solomon shared how acts of infliction and sentences are established on behalf of people who scoff and are boastful.

The verse continues, “... and stripes for the back of fools.” Solomon added the words, “and stripes” or “and strokes or blows” “for the back of fools” which means “for backside belonging to people who are stupid, dullards, simpletons, arrogant and silly”. Solomon said blows are made firm and established for the backside of people who are stupid and arrogant.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there are consequences for people who arrogantly scoff at boast, and there are strokes to the backside of people who act in stupid and arrogant ways. God wants us to walk in His ways, and He sent us His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. When we have faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the “judgments prepared for scorners” and “stripes for the back of fools”.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Solomon say, “wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
