In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a false witness shall perish: but the man that hears speaks constantly”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse twenty-nine of Proverbs Solomon said, “a wicked man hardens his face” where we read,
A wicked man hardens his face: but as for the upright, he directs his way.
The verse begins, “A wicked man hardens his face:” Solomon began with the words, “a wicked man” or “a person whether male or female who is criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “hardens his face” which means “makes strong, stout and firm their presence, front and countenance”. Solomon shared how a person who is evil and hostile to God makes their presence and countenance firm, stout and impudent.
The verse goes on to say, “but as for the upright, he directs his way.” Solomon continued with the words, “but as for the upright” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover in reference to the person who is just, lawful, right and correct”, “he directs his way” which means “the person discerns, understands and considers their traveled road, journey, manner and direction”. Solomon said the person who is just and lawful thinks through and considers their path and direction.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a person who is evil and hostile to God makes their countenance strong as in bluffing, however, the person who is just and correct thinks about the direction and path of their life. God wants us to go to Him as we make our plans, and because He desires that we be with Him for all eternity, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us how to discern our journey and path before we take action to walk in them.
Next time Solomon shares about, “no wisdom, understanding or counsel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
