A Proud and Haughty Scorner - Proverbs 21:24

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “whoso keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles, and in chapter twenty-one and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “proud and haughty scorner is his name” where we read,

Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who deals in proud wrath.

The verse begins, Proud and haughty scorner is his name, ... Solomon began with the word, “proud” or “arrogant, insolent and presumptuous” “and haughty scorner” which means “and elated and arrogant scoffer” “is his name” or “exists as his, the person in the next part of our verse's, fame, reputation and glory”. Solomon shared how the fame, reputation and glory of the person in the next part of our verse is an arrogant and presumptuous scoffer.

The verse continues, “... who deals in proud wrath.” Solomon added the words, “who deals” or “that fashions, accomplishes, makes and produces” “in proud wrath” which means “within insolent, presumptuous, arrogant and excessive anger and rage that wrinkles the nostrils and nose”. Solomon said the person who is a presumptuous scoffer makes and produces insolent and excessive anger and rage.

When we meditate upon Solomon 's words in this verse, we see him identify people who are arrogant and presumptuous scoffers and the way they produce excessive anger and rage. God hates a “proud look” (See Proverbs 6:17), and when a person displays boastful and arrogant behavior, they demonstrate their egotistical anger toward others. God does not want us to be this way, and because “pride” will keep many people from humbling themselves before God, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins, including pride, of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the “proud and haughty scorner” and the willful arrogance they display.

Next time Solomon says, “the desire of the slothful kills him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
