In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “there are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-two of Proverbs Solomon said, “the desire of a man is his kindness” where we read,
The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
The verse begins, “The desire of a man is his kindness:” Solomon began with the words, “the desire of a man” or “the wish, longing, appetite and object of craving pertaining to a person whether male or female” “is his kindness” which means “exists as the person's pity, mercy, goodness and faithfulness”. Solomon shared how mercy and faithfulness exists as the longing and wish of a person.
The verse goes on to say, “and a poor man is better than a liar.” Solomon continued with the words, “and a poor man” or “and an impoverished, in want, in need and destitute person whether male or female” “is better than a liar” which means “exists to a greater degree more pleasant, agreeable, appropriate, becoming and valuable compared to a person who utters untruths, falsehoods and deceptive words”. Solomon said a person who is impoverished and in need exists as more pleasant and agreeable compared to a person who does not tell the truth and speaks falsehoods.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that mercy, goodness and faithfulness are the passion and wish for a person, however, when a person is impoverished, they have an existence that is superior to one who is deceptive. God knows us and loves us, and He knew we all needed a “Savior” regardless of our monetary status or outright demeanor. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for all our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be kind and to speak the truth by His Holy Spirit who is loving and caring.
Next time Solomon says, “the fear of the LORD tends to life”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
