Wandering from Understanding - Proverbs 21:16

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “it is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity, and in chapter twenty-one and verse sixteen of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “the man that wanders out of the way of understanding” where we read,

The man that wanders out of the way of understanding

shall remain in the congregation of the dead.

The verse begins, The man that wanders out of the way of understanding ... Solomon began with the words, “the man that wanders” or “the person whether male and female who goes astray, staggers, errs and is mislead” “out of the way”which means “from the road, distance, journey, manner, path and direction” “of understanding” or “pertaining to insight, attention, prudence and comprehension” shall do the following. Solomon shared how the person who goes astray from the path pertaining to insight and comprehension will have the following happen to them.

The verse continues, “... shall remain in the congregation of the dead.” Solomon added the words, “shall remain” or “will stay, settle down, repose and alight” “in the congregation” which means “within the assembly, convocation and organized body” “of the dead” or “belonging to the lifeless, deceased and powerless ones”. Solomon said the person who “wanders out of the way of understanding” will continue within the assembly of the deceased.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see through Solomon how there are consequences to the person who abandons the path of insight and prudence, and the eventual outcome is to continue within the assembly of the lifeless. God gave us His Son Jesus who died on the cross so we could be forgiven of our sins and live with Him forever. In other words, God wants to give us eternal life, and when we believe in Jesus, He will provide all the insight and guidance we need through His Holy Spirit as we live with Him day by day.

Next time Solomon says, “he that loves pleasure shall be a poor man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
