In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the fear of the LORD tends to life: and he that has it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “a slothful man hides his hand in his bosom” where we read,
A slothful man hides his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
The verse begins, “A slothful man hides his hand in his bosom, ...” Solomon began with the words, “a slothful man” or “a sluggish, lax and lazy person whether male or female” “hides his hand” which means “conceals, buries and secretly lays aside the person's physical hand” “in his bosom” or “within the person's bowl or dish”. Solomon shared how the person who is lazy conceals their physical hand within the bowl or dish which is full of food for eating.
The verse goes on to say, “... and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.” Solomon continued with the words, “and will not so much as” or “and shall in no way or manner even, indeed or moreover” “bring it to his mouth again” which means “the person's physical hand toward the orifice in their face used for eating, drinking and speaking another time”. Solomon said the lazy person who will conceals their hand within a bowl will not even lift their hand to bring food to their “mouth”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how seriously lazy a person can be. They won't so much as bring their hands to their mouths to eat. God does not want us to be this way, however, many people are. God knows this, and He loves them anyway. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all of us, even the lazy ones, because He knew when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cause us to put aside laziness and partake of the abundance of blessings that await us when we fellowship with Him.
Next time Solomon says, “smite a scorner, and the simple will beware”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
