Scorner Punished and the Simple Wise - Proverbs 21:11

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the soul of the wicked desires evil: his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes, and in chapter twenty-one and verse eleven of Proverbs Solomon said, “when the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise” where we read,

When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise:

and when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.

The verse begins, When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: Solomon began with the words, “when the scorner” or “at the time and moment a person who talks arrogantly, boasts, mocks and derides” “is punished” which means “is fined, amerced, condemned and inflicted with a penalty”, “the simple” or “the naive, foolish and silly” “is made wise” which means “is caused to be skillful, shrewd and prudent”. Solomon said at the time and moment a person who arrogantly boasts and mocks is inflicted with a penalty, people who are naive and foolish are caused to be skillful and prudent.

The verse goes on to say, “and when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.” Solomon continued with the words, “and when the wise” or “and at the time and moment the person who is skilled, shrewd and prudent” “is instructed” which means “is given insight, comprehension, intellect and understanding”, “he receives knowledge” or “he, the person whether male or female, fetches, lay hold of, seizes and captures perception, skill, discernment and wisdom”. Solomon said at the time and moment a person who has skill and prudence is given insight and intellect, they lay hold of and seize perception and discernment.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn at the time a person who is arrogantly boastful is condemned, people who are foolish are made to be skillful, and at the time people who are skillful and prudent are taught, they lay hold of discernment and understanding. God offers His wisdom to everyone through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be humble, teachable and ready to receive whatever insight and discernment He desires for our lives. (See James 1:5)

Next time Solomon says, “the righteous man wisely considers the house of the wicked”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
