In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “the fear of the LORD tends to life” where we read,
The fear of the LORD tends to life:
and he that has it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
The verse begins, “The fear of the LORD tends to life:” Solomon began with the words, “the fear of the LORD” or “the terror, awe, reverence, respect and piety pertaining to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “tends to life” which means “leads and guides toward fresh, active and lively living”. Solomon said having awe and reverence toward Jehovah God leads a person toward fresh and active living.
The verse continues, “and he that has it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.” Solomon added the words, “and he that has it” or “and the person whether male or female who holds, owns and possesses the fear of the LORD” “shall abide satisfied” which means “will lodge, dwell and remain sated, surfeited and full”; “he shall not be visited” or “the person will in no way or manner attend to or be reckoned, appointed and assigned” “with evil” which means “close and next to bad, disagreeableness, malignancy, unpleasantness or misery”. Solomon said the person who possesses the “fear of the LORD” will not only be made full, but also will in no way or manner be appointed unto misery and unpleasantness.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon that having reverence and awe of Jehovah God guides and leads to active and fresh living, and when we obtain that healthy respect for Him, we shall be made full and protected from wickedness and misery. God loves us, and He desires the best for our lives. He gave His Son Jesus to the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we surrender to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and show us the value of reverencing Him so our lives will be full, and all wickedness and misery may be kept away from us.
Next time Solomon says, “a slothful man hides his hand in his bosom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
