A King on the Throne of Judgment - Proverbs 20:8

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the just man walks in his integrity: his children are blessed after him”, and in chapter twenty and verse eight of Proverbs Solomon referred to, “a king that sits in the throne of judgment” where we read,

A king that sits in the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.

The verse begins, A king that sits in the throne of judgment ...” Solomon began with the words, “a king” or “a royal ruler or leader” “that sits in the throne” which means “who is fixed, established and seated within the seat of honor, royal dignity, authority and power” “of judgment” or “pertaining to legal suit, condemnation, government and plea”. Solomon referred to the royal leader who is seated upon the seat of honor, authority and power over legal suits, government issues and pleas.

The verse continues, “... scatters away all evil with his eyes.” Solomon added the words, “scatters away” or “winnows, disperses, spreads out and strews” “all evil” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the bad, disagreeable, malignant, displeasing, miserable and wicked acts and deeds” “with his eyes” or “by the use of his, the king's, physical eyes used for vision and sight”. Solomon said the royal ruler disperses wicked and perverse acts and deeds simply by looking at them.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that the vision of the royal ruler or authority is very powerful, and if he is a just king, he will scatter away all malignancy and wicked acts by just casting his “eyes” upon them. God is a righteous judge, and He is holy. He wants us to be “holy and He is holy” (See 1 Peter 1:16), and because we “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put away from us all “evil” and wickedness to the credit of His glory, honor and praise.

Next time Solomon asks, “who can say, I have made my heart clean”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
