In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “called for a famine upon the land: he broke the whole staff of bread. He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant. Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron. Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse twenty-two of Psalms the Psalmist shared how the king made Joseph lord of his house, “to bind his princes at his pleasure” where we read,
To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.
The verse begins, “To bind his princes at his pleasure;” The Psalmist began with the words, “to bind his princes” or “to tie up, imprison and harness his, Pharaoh's, rulers, leaders, overseers and chiefs” “at his pleasure” which means “according to his, Joseph's, own mind, desire and emotion”. The Psalmist said Joseph was given charge over the leaders and rulers within Pharaoh's house as well.
The verse goes on to say, “and teach his senators wisdom.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and teach his senators” or “and instruct and guide his, Pharaoh's, aged and elders toward” “wisdom” which means “to act and conduct themselves wisely”. The Psalmist said Joseph was to give instruction in wise acts and deeds to the elders within Pharaoh's household.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist recalled how Joseph had such command over the household of Pharaoh that He could do as he desired with his overseers and leaders. Joseph could give instruction to the elders within Pharaoh's kingdom. God put Joseph in this position, and although Joseph suffered for about thirteen years before he was put in charge of Pharaoh's house, he was there at the right time to save the people of Israel. God has a plan, and He always works it out according to His Divine purposes. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us charge and rule over things as He deems it best for our lives and His kingdom.
Next time the Psalmist shares how the king made Joseph lord of his house, “Israel also came into Egypt”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
