Israel Envying Moses - Psalms 106:16

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist said concerning the people of Israel who were wandering in the wilderness, “they soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel: But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse sixteen of Psalms the Psalmist shared how the people of Israel, “envied Moses also in the camp” where we read,

They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.

The verse begins, They envied Moses also in the camp, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “they envied Moses also” or “they, the people of Israel, were zealous and jealous of Moses whose name means drawing out and was the prophet and lawgiver and leader of the exodus even so and indeed” “in the camp” which means “within the encampment, hose and body of Israelite people”. The Psalmist referred to how the people of Israel became jealous of “Moses” while they were encamped in the wilderness.

The verse goes on to say,... and Aaron the saint of the LORD. The Psalmist continued with the words, “and Aaron” or “and Aaron whose name means light bringer and was brother of Moses, a Levite and the first high priest” “the saint of the LORD” which means “the sacred, holy and set apart one belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist referred to “Moses'” brother “Aaron” whom he considered to be the sacred and set apart one for Jehovah God. (See Exodus 16)

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist mentioned the way the people of Israel became jealous of “Moses” and his brother “Aaron” while they were in the wilderness encampment. God appointed “Moses and Aaron” to be the spiritual leaders of Israel, and because they were in exalted positions, the people were “envious” of them. God raises up leaders and takes them down, and although many leaders believe themselves to be responsible for their positions, God places them according to His Divine purpose and will. God loves everyone, and although there are positions of authority that are given to people, God is no respecter of persons. (See Acts 10:34) He desires to have a personal intimate relationship with everyone, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross so when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and set us in places of authority according to His Divine purposes and plan.

Next time the Psalmist shares how, “the earth opened and swallowed up Dathan”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
