In Psalms one hundred four the Psalmist said, “the trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he has planted. Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house”, and in chapter one hundred four and verse eighteen of Psalms the Psalmist said “the high hills are a refuge for the wild goats” where we read,
The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies.
The verse begins, “The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats;” The Psalmist began with the words, “the high hills” or “the exalted, tall and lofty mountains” “are a refuge” which means “exist as a shelter, hope and trust” “for the wild goats” or “on behalf of the ibex or climbing mountain goat”. The Psalmist said the exalted and lofty mountains exist as a hope and shelter on behalf of the ibex or mountain goat.
The verse continues, “and the rocks for the conies.” The Psalmist added the words, “and the rocks” or “and the crags, cliffs or ragged stones” “for the conies” which means “on behalf of the rock badger or hyrax”. The Psalmist said the crags and cliffs upon the mountainsides exist on behalf of the rock badger or hyrax.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist spoke of mountainous regions which were perfect for the climbing mountain goats, and the jagged cliffs and crags were consummate for the rock badgers or hyraxes. God created all these environments for these animals, and when we consider that He cared about these animals, how much more does He demonstrate His love for us by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins? God wants us to be in a personal intimate relationship with Him, and when we surrender our lives to Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us appreciate who He is and what He has provided not only for the “wild goats” and “conies”, but also for all of mankind.
Next time the Psalmist says, “he appointed the moon for seasons”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
