Phinehas Executes Judgment - Psalms 106:30

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist said the people of Israel, “joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead. Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague broke in upon them”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse thirty of Psalms the Psalmist said, “then stood up Phineas, and executed judgment” where we read,

Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.

The verse begins, Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: The Psalmist began with the words, “then stood up Phinehas” or “at that time, therefore and on this account, Phinehas whose name means mouth of brass and was the son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron; his zealousness for the Lord averted a plague on Israel and gained him the promise of the Lord of an everlasting priesthood in his family took a stand, presented himself and was attentive”, “and executed judgment” which means “and intervened, mediated and interceded with entreat, prayer and supplication”. (See Numbers 25:6-15) The Psalmist referred to when “Phinehas” raised himself up in the location of the plague that affected the people of Israel, and therein He interceded for the people to Jehovah God with prayer, entreat and supplication.

The verse goes on to say,and so the plague was stayed. The Psalmist continued with the words, “and so the plague” or “and therefore, wherefore and these things begins so, even so and indeed the slaughter, blow, strike or smiting of the people of Israel” “was stayed” which means “existed as restrained, halt, stopped and under restraint”. The Psalmist said when “Phinehas” was exalted among the people of Israel and “executed judgment”, the “plague” was stopped.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the time when the people of Israel began to worship a false god. Because of this, they suffered a plague for which “Phinehas” made intercession to Jehovah God that resulted in the plague being stopped. God knows us, and He cares for us more than anyone else. He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and protect us from the “plagues” that come upon unbelievers in alignment with His Divine will, plan and purposes.

Next time Psalmist says, “that was counted unto him for righteousness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
