Wine Makes the Heart Glad - Psalms 104:15

In Psalms one hundred four the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “He waters the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your works. He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth”, and in chapter one hundred four and verse fifteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “wine makes glad the heart of man” where we read,

And wine that makes glad the heart of man,

and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengthens man's heart.

The verse begins, And wine that makes glad the heart of man, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “and wine” or “and fermented fruit of the vine” “that makes glad” which means “that exults, gladdens and causes merriment and glee within” “the heart of man” or “the inner man, soul, mind, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and passions”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God was responsible for the “wine” that caused merriment within the souls of those who drink it.

The verse goes on to say,... and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengthens man's heart. The Psalmist continued with the words, “and oil” or “and fatness, medicament or unguent for anointing” “to make his face to shine” which means “to cause his, the person whether male or female's, front of the head or countenance to gleam, be cheerful and rejoicing”, “and bread” or “and grain, food, loaf or victuals” “which strengthens” which means “that supports, sustains, establishes and comforts” “man's heart” or “people whether male or females' soul, mind, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and passions”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God made “oil” that caused people's countenances to be cheerful and gleam and grain or food to support, sustain and comfort them.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist noted the “wine, oil and bread” which are produced by Jehovah God. “Wine” which is sometimes symbolic for “blood” in the scriptures, “oil” which is symbolic for the Holy Spirit of God and “bread” which is symbolic of the body in the scriptures were all produced by Almighty God. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to “shed His blood” upon the cross, and His “body” or “bread” was broken for our sins, and the “oil” or anointing of the Holy Spirit comes within a person when they receive Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord”. God wants an intimate, personal relationship with every person, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to enjoy the provision of His “wine, oil and bread” throughout eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the trees of the LORD are full of sap”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
