In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist said concerning the people of Israel who were wandering in the wilderness, “they soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel: But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse fifteen of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “gave them their request” where we read,
And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.
The verse begins, “And he gave them their request;” The Psalmist began with the words, “and he gave them” or “and he, Jehovah God, granted, bestowed and furnished to the people of Israel” “their request” which means “their, the people of Israel's, petition and things asked for”. The Psalmist referred to the way Jehovah God provided the petition which Israel desired exceedingly from Him. (See Numbers 11:31-34)
The verse continues, “but sent leanness into their soul.” The Psalmist added the words, “but sent leanness” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover appointed and brought scantness, wasting and thinness” “into their soul” which means “in their, the people of Israel's, inner man, mind, will, desires, living beings and seat of emotions and passions”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God appointed scantness and thinness to the heart, mind and will of the people of Israel.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how the Psalmist said Jehovah God provided the passionate desire of the people of Israel, however, He allowed “a great plague” to come upon them afterward. God knows what is best for us, and He has eternal purposes in mind for our lives. “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (See John 3:16), and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us by His Holy Spirit into all truth so we may be pleasing unto Him. (See John 16:13) Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for their provision of salvation and goodness to us according to their plans and purposes for our lives.
Next time Psalmist shares how the people of Israel, “envied Moses also in the camp”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
