In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said, “Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore. Remember his marvelous works that he has done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth. O you seed of Abraham his servant, you children of Jacob his chosen. He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “he has remembered his covenant for ever” where we read,
He has remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.
The verse begins, “He has remembered his covenant for ever, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “He has remembered” or “He, Jehovah God, has called to mind, recalled and brought to memory” “his covenant” which means “his, Jehovah God's, alliance, pledge, agreement, confederacy and league” “for ever” or “unto long duration, everlasting, futurity and to the indefinite and unending future”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God called to mind His unending and everlasting pledge, agreement and confederacy.
The verse goes on to say, “... the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “the word which he commanded” or “the speech, utterance, counsel and sentence that he, Jehovah God, charged, ordered and appointed” “to a thousand generations” which means “toward one thousand ages, periods and habitations”. The Psalmist referred to the utterance which Jehovah God ordered toward one thousand ages.
When we mediate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist mentioned the way Jehovah God called to mind His eternal agreement, commitment and counsel that He ordered for one thousand ages and generations. God's word is eternal, and He does not change. (See Malachi 3:6) He loves us, and He proved His love by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be a part of His eternal “covenant” that He has promised to all who yield their lives to Him.
Next time the Psalmist shares about the, “covenant he made with Abraham”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
