Flies and Lice - Psalms 105:31

In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. They showed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word. He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish. Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse thirty-one of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “spoke, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice” where we read,

He spoke, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts.

The verse begins, He spoke, and there came divers sorts of flies, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “He spoke” or “He, Jehovah God, uttered, avowed, charged and commanded”, “and there came” which means “and there entered and came forth” “divers sorts of flies” or “swarms of different kinds of mosquitos or flying flies”. The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God gave the word, and different sorts of “flies” came upon the land of Egypt.

The verse continues,... and lice in all their coasts. The Psalmist added the words, “and lice” or “and gnat-swarms infixing their stings” “in all their coasts” which means “within each, every, the whole and throughout the boarders and enclosed territories of Egypt”. The Psalmist shared how “gnats with stings” were also unleashed upon the entire boarders of Egypt.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the plagues of “flies and lice” that were released upon the people of Egypt. (See Exodus 8:21-24) Pharaoh's stubbornness kept the plagues coming from Jehovah God upon Egypt, and because Pharaoh would not allow the people of Israel to go, “stinging flies and lice or gnats” were multiplied among them. God patiently waits for us to surrender our lives to Him through His Son Jesus, and when we do, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide and protect us from the eternal trouble that shall come upon all who do not believe.

Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
