In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God delivered the people of Israel from Egypt and He, “brought them forth also with silver and gold, and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them. He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse forty of Psalms the Psalmist shared how, “the people asked, and he brought quails” where we read,
The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
The verse begins, “The people asked, and he brought quails, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “the people asked” or “the human beings both male and female belonging to the nation of Israel inquired, begged and sought”, “and he brought quail” which means “and he, Jehovah God, enumerated, gathered and caused to come quail birds”. (See Exodus 16:12-13) The Psalmist referred to the time when the children of Israel appealed to God for food that was different than the manna they were eating. God sent them “quail” which satisfied their desire for meats.
The verse goes on to say, “... and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “and satisfied them” or “and sated, quenched, fulfilled and surfeited the people of Israel” “with the bread” which means “by the use of food and grain” “of heaven” or “belonging to the visible sky, abode of the stars ad abode of Jehovah God”. The Psalmist said the “manna” sent from the skies by Jehovah God fulfilled the hunger of the people of Israel.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the time when the children of Israel were wandering in the wilderness and God made provision for food by sending “manna” to them, however they wearied of God's provision of “manna”, and He gave them “quail” to eat. God satisfied their longing, but many of them became sick as they gorged upon the “quail”. God knows what is best for us, and it was His idea to send His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide abundantly for us according to His perfect purposes and plans. (See Philippians 4:19)
Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “opened the rock, and the waters gushed out”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
