Jehovah God Saved for His Name's Sake - Psalms 106:8

In Psalms one hundred six the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “Our fathers understood not your wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of your mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea”, and in chapter one hundred six and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “saved them for his name's sake” where we read,

Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.

The verse begins, Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “nevertheless he saved them” or “nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover he, Jehovah God, delivered, rescued and gave victory to them, the people of Israel” “for his name's sake” which means “on behalf of his, Jehovah God's, reputation, fame and glory's purpose and intent”. The Psalmist recalled how Jehovah God rescued the people of Israel according to His reputation despite their failure to remember His “mercies” and provoking Him at the “Red sea”.

The verse goes on to say, “... that he might make his mighty power to be known. The Psalmist continued with the words, “that he might make” or “so he, Jehovah God, could reveal, make perceptive, distinguished and discriminate” “his mighty power” which means “his, Jehovah God's, strength, valor, bravery and force” “to be known” or “to exist as perceived, discerned, discriminated and distinguished by experience”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God rescued the people of Israel so His strength, valor and bravery would be perceived and discriminated by them.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist shared that Jehovah God delivered the people of Israel even though they forgot His “wonders” and “provoked him at the Red sea”. God wants people to know how powerful He is, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. He invites us to receive Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, and when we do, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and reveal Himself and His power to us in our time of need. (See Philippians 4:19)

Next time Psalmist says Jehovah God, “rebuked the Red sea also”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
