Sinners Shall be Consumed - Psalms 104:35

In Psalms one hundred four the Psalmist said, “I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD”, and in chapter one hundred four and verse thirty-five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “let the sinners be consumed out of the earth” where we read,

Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more.

Bless you the LORD, O my soul. Praise you the LORD.

The verse begins, Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. The Psalmist began with the words, “let the sinners” or “allow and permit the people who are criminals, exposed to condemnation and reckoned as offenders” “be consumed” which means “be finished, complete, at an end and entirely consumed” “out of the earth” or “separate and apart from the land, ground, country, territory, region and world”, “and let the wicked” which means “and allow and permit the ungodly, guilty of crime and sins and condemned” “be no more” or “exist never again”. The Psalmist desired that people who violate Jehovah God's law be entirely consumed from the world, and that evil and ungodly people never exist again.

The verse goes on to say,Bless you the LORD, O my soul. Praise you the LORD. The Psalmist continued with the words, “Bless you the LORD” or “praise, salute and adore Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God”, “O my soul” which means “O, my, the Psalmist's, inner man, mind, heart, will, desires, living being and seat of emotions and passions”. “Praise you the LORD” or “shine forth, make a boast, commend, and glory in Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist exhorted himself to adore Jehovah God from his inner being and heart, and to give worship and adoration to Him.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist concluded his words in this Psalm by directing his own attention toward Jehovah God. He wanted to worship and adore Him with His entire being, and anyone who begins to understand who He is will want to give Him honor, praise and glory that He is due. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and encourage us to give Him praise, honor and glory not only in this life but also in the eternal life to come.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see the Psalmist say, “O give thanks unto the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
