In Psalms one hundred five the Psalmist said Jehovah God delivered the people of Israel from Egypt and, “Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them. He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night”, and in chapter one hundred five and verse forty-one of Psalms the Psalmist shared how Jehovah God, “opened the rock, and the waters gushed out” where we read,
He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.
The verse begins, “He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out;” The Psalmist began with the words, “He opened the rock” or “He, Jehovah God, loosened, set free and opened wide the block of stone”, “and the waters gushed out” which means “and the flooding waters flowed, issued and discharged”. (See Exodus 17:6) The Psalmist shared how Jehovah God set free the flooding waters from a stone bolder while the people Israel were wandering in the wilderness.
The verse goes on to say, “they ran in the dry places like a river.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “they ran” or “they, the waters, moved, proceeded and traversed” “in the dry places” which means “within the desert or drought locations” “like a river” or “similar and in likeness to a stream or flood”. The Psalmist said the “waters” flowed out of the rock in likeness to a strong flowing stream toward the desert wilderness.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist continued to recount the travels of the people of Israel after they left the land of Egypt. God provided water for them when they had thirst in the wilderness, and He had Moses strike the rock so their thirst would be quenched. In the same manner, Jesus Christ, God's Son and spiritual rock, was sent to the world to be struck and killed upon the cross for the sins of all mankind, (See 1 Corinthians 10:4) and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide for us as we have need in this life and the next.
Next time the Psalmist shares how Jehovah God, “remembered his holy promise”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
